DragKing were pioneers in jazz/noise/punk/nowave/chicago/wicker park/90s music. There were many other, less remembered, bands active from 1990-2001.
The Critic always found the band name “DragKing” mysterious.
Is it the semi-opposite of “Drag Queen” with a gender reverse? The band line up does not obviously fit this interpretation.
Is it social satire related to gender reverse?
Is it “Kings of Drag” … as in … wow, this band is such a drag? Many people find jazz/noise/punk/nowave/chicago/wicker park/90s music to be a drag. But they never heard the music.
Is it “The King of Drag” … as in … drag racing? Did one of the members never admit to their high power rocket car skills?
Is it about “Drag” … as in … the scientific study of fluid dynamics? Can you be a king for that? Maybe it was a “Drag” on a ciggy or some other hinderance? The Critic’s mind reels with possibility.
The music is more memorable than the name. Enjoy a taste of DragKing and explore for more!
